Bourton

A curved dry-stone boundary wall in coursed local stone, hand-laid to follow the garden and hold the bank behind it.

The brief

The garden needed a new boundary wall that would retain the bank behind it and sit honestly in its setting — built the traditional way, in local stone, with no mortar.

What we did

  • Sorted and graded the stone so faces, hearting and copes each did their job
  • Laid the wall by hand in courses, kept battered back for strength
  • Followed the curve of the garden and tied the return in
  • Finished with a coping to shed water and lock the top course

The result

A dry-stone wall that carries the bank and follows the line of the garden — built dry, battered and coped the traditional way, with no mortar to fail.

Questions about this kind of work

01

How do you price and scope work?

Clearly. You get a scope that sets out exactly what is included and what is not, so there are no nasty surprises at the end. If something needs to change once the work is opened up, we tell you before we do it.

02

How do I get a quote?

Get in touch with a few details — and photos if you have them — and we’ll arrange to come and see the work. Quotes are free and come with a clear scope of what’s included, along with a note of anything that might change once the work is opened up. Send us your details to get started.

03

How long will the work take?

It depends on the job and the weather — lime work in particular needs the right conditions to cure properly. We’ll give you a realistic timescale with the quote and keep you updated as the work progresses.

Planning conservation or repair work?

Send a few details and photos and we'll arrange to come and see the job. The quote is free and the advice is honest.
