Dry Stone Walling
A dry stone wall holds together by how it’s built, not by mortar — stone chosen, placed and locked, and battered (leaning gently inward) for strength. We build and rebuild boundary and garden walls, and where a full-width traditional wall isn’t practical we can face a structural core in dry stone so you get the look without the footprint.
What this involves
- Building and rebuilding boundary and garden walls
- Traditional, mortar-free technique — graded, placed and locked
- Re-using existing stone and sourcing matching stone where needed
- Dry-stone facing to a structural core where space is tight
What’s typically included
- A look at the site, the stone and the line of the wall
- A clear scope and price for the work
- Sound foundations and a properly battered, coped finish
- Existing stone salvaged and re-used where it’s good
Every wall is different — the stone, the ground and the line all change the job — so we price each one on what it actually needs.
Who it’s for
Common questions
Can you match my existing wall?
Usually. We re-use as much of your existing stone as is sound and source matching stone for the rest, so a rebuilt section sits in with the original.
Do dry stone walls last without mortar?
Built properly, yes — for generations. The strength is in the technique: graded stone, a good batter and a heavy coping, all locking the wall together.
